So Ive been attempting to find some kills in New Eden for a few days now. Ive roamed around in low sec for several hours at a time finding that most people dock up in a one station system. (the ones Ive been roaming through). I found this out due to the fact that I see 10+ people in local, yet no ship except wrecks show up on the dscan. Hm. I docked and checked the guest tab. Sure enough, 8 people were docked. By the time I undocked, the other few people in local had left. I guess we docked and undocked at the exact same time.
Its not like that in every system, though. Some systems, I find several ships Id like to fight. Id see a cruiser or two and a few other frigates of varying races. Id dscan them down, and when Id get there, theyd warp off. Even though Im warping in at 50km away. Talk about paranoid people in lowsec, man. Ive tried to can flip a few people to no avail. They dont even fly off and get a new ship to blow me up. So after about 3-4 hours each day hunting, Id get bored and log off to play CoD:Black Ops.
Which is my next part. Im not the best at FPSs, but Im decent. My personal flavor of system is the Xbox 360. Alot of people claim PC is better for fps, but Ive tried it and just much more prefer consoles. Anyhow, CoD provides what EVE doesnt sometimes. That quick fight of killing another player. Alot of times though, its not due to skill that you die or win in an FPS. Its due to lag, the other team noob tubing or them not having the ability to aim and they just spray in a big circle, hitting you with one or two bullets (and in hardcore mode, its enough to kill you).
So thats what Ive been doing. I dont have the patience for a long term camp or roam to find players to kill. A few hours of roaming with fruitless encounters and Im done for the day and log on over to CoD for an hour or two. If you play on the 360 also, toss me a message on UnkemptRadical, saying you read my blog or something and Ill add you to friends so we can play against or together somethime.

Executioner Executed
I decided to go out to Aldali again, to see if I could find someone to fight. Its the same place I got blown up by the station guns previously. On my way out, I saw a couple busy systems, full of miners I guess. I decided to dscan here, in .8 or .9 space and see if any of them were using cans. Surprisingly, several were. I saw few punishers also, but they kept moving around and I couldnt get a good location on them, missioning most likely. I found a bantem, so figured Id try to get him to fight.
I took a few peices of his ore, and he sent me a convo thing. So we talked for abit, all the while, I was taking his ore out of his can and putting it into mine. Just in case he decided to take it back. Yeah, Im evil, I know =) Anyhow, after talking to this guy for a bit, he mentions this is an alt and his main can fly battleships. Cool, I didnt want to fight such a new toon anyways really, this guy is only a month or two old. So he logs over to his main, who can fly battleships. Well, looking at his employment history showed me his main wasnt much experienced either, most likely just training ship skills to fly the ship in space, not combat. I understand that, as I did the same with my Abaddon last September.
So I drop a can, he takes it. Then he flies off. Like 50km away. So far out of my range, he cant be hit. I inform him that there is no point in flying so far away, he cant hit me either, that he should orbit around 5km. And he flies back, and I immediately put my scram and nos on to prevent his MWD from helping him fly so fast. I turn on my guns, with infrareds in, then think I need to switch them. They cycle less than once before I turn them off, switch all 3 crystals and get them turned back on. Go me!
This guy is beating down my shield, but not as quickly as I thought he would. It was apparent to me at this point, that I was going to win. Hes at half armor, so I turn off my guns. I wanted to see if he could get through my tank at all before he died. I think he was trying to fly away, because range went from 5km-ish to about 8km-ish before I noticed. So I changed from orbit to approach. I got within 2km and turned lasers back on. He wasnt getting away with his MWD disabled. He killed my shields, but did zero damage to my armor. I kept range low and killed his ship.

I think I did ok in picking a target I could kill this time. However, I did not think that he was a pure newbie, which I believe he is. After talking to him for a bit, he seems like a good guy and was willing to entertain me with a fight, even if he thought he would lose, which makes him good in my book. I think what I could have done better though would be to pay more attention to the range, because it did take me a moment to notice that he was increasing distance between us.
I did ok on the rest I think, except for changing the crystals. I have been doing a few missions in my Harbinger, and with infrareds, my range is 15km. With multi's, its about 6500. I was still in the mindset of flying my BC sized ship, so in that respect, I had changed crystals at the wrong point in time. It wasnt until he was getting further away that I realized I was using the wrong crystals from the beginning. Had I kept the infrareds in, I am sure I would have killed him before he had the chance to turn and run. So remembering which ship I am flying is also very important when setting range and ammo.
After the fight, we talked some more and I offered tips on flying a ship without the proper support skills. As we were talking, I was tempted to suicide myself and kill his pod, since he was orbiting and I had targeted it soon as his ship went boom. But I was able to resist the dark side and let him live. Good thing too, because had I been distracted with blowing him up, the Harbinger and Scorpian duo in the same corp as the people who I had just a moment ago stolen some Veldspar mining crystals from, showed up. I started to fly towards them, because for some reason, the text was on top of each other all jumbled, so I couldnt see what ships they were at first. Luckily for me, they were 50km out and I had plenty of time to figure this out. I was already aligned (trying to make it a habit) and so I warped out quickly due to the certain death that awaited me had I stayed.

Loss Number Two And a Half Win
This was just a stupid loss. I had dscanned down this afk guy next to a cyno beacon. I was too far away to sneak up on him, just in case he wasnt afk. I bm'd his beacon location as they were only 2km apart from each other. Warped out, back in on top of him.
Targeted, tossed on scram. Got a pop up message saying something about concorde, blah blah. I didnt read it. I should have, because if I had, I would have known that the giant station nearby would shoot at me. Well, I was already attacking, turned on repper and got the guy down to structure. I saw a big explosion, thinking I got him. No, it was me going boom and him safely in structure.

I limped back to Amarr home world 3 or 4 jumps out, waiting out my global criminal timer, spinning a new punisher. I was thinking about getting my harbinger out and going to kill that guy well out of the range of those station guns, but figured that would be cheating on my plan. So Im going back out to Ami with the same ship and fit I just lost. Going to use infrareds this time and perhaps be further out from those station guns.
Well, I got back to a ship that was empty. No pilot this time. I passed him in his pod as he jumped out of low sec to .5 space again. Either way, I targeted his ship, aligned myself to the safe spot I had made and blew up that empty ship. I had already lost 2 ships today, and it doesnt matter to me if the one I get is empty or not right now. I made it out of there with about 5% armor left too, so no lost ship this time!

These actions have cause my security status to plummet, Im now -2.6! I was previously at 1.2, so this is an unexpected side affect that has instantly become inconvenient. It may be time to load up the second account to haul my stuff to assist in a move out of high sec. I found this out the moment I jumped back into high sec and the Concorde ships started shooting me. I was able to jump around to diff planets, but was unable to keep it up for 15 minutes. Needless to say, Punisher number 3 has been lost.

Dramiel Loss
There is a reason we Amarr enslaved the Minmatar. There is a reason the Gallente dont like us. Its only natural they team up to destroy us. There is a reason I will kill every single Minmatar and Gallente pilot I see from here on out. These reasons and more follow!
So I just lost my first punisher during this project. I was out in a .6 system, on my way back from .4, where I accidently bought something from. I was the only one in the system for at least the 10-15 minutes I waited around in a safe spot I made. I gave up and started on my way home. One jump over, there was this guy who I was trying to find, but each time I saw him, it was just as I was warping off. I guess he was looking for me too? Anyhow, he was in a galente frig also, I forget the name now. I dropped a peice of cargo in a jet can and named it "for you" Well, a second after I dropped it, another guy warped in who had just got in the area, from watching local.
This guy went red, not the guy I was wanting to fight, but seeing as I was looking for some pvp anyways, I decided to fight him. I quickly checked his employment history to guage his skillpoints (which doesnt always work btw) and decided it was ok to assume he was similar skill points as me. So I targeted him, and immediately clicked my scram so he couldnt gank the can stuff and try to warp away when he gets attacked. Yeah....He wasnt going anywhere....
He was in a Dramiel, and I noticed too slowly to attempt a warp out. He ate through my shields as expected, got me to about 75% armor before I turned on my repper. I decided to wait to turn that on, as I am cap stable without it on. It slowed the damage, but didnt negate it, while I was setting range at just under 3k, right in my optimal range. And his apparently, because he kept getting me down while I was doing minimal damage to him. I was able to break his shield tank, but I didnt even get him to armor. Or if I did, I didnt notice. I was busy trying to align and warp out before getting blowed up when I was about 25% armor. My ship was blown up just as my warp was a sliver away from getting me out. I got out with my pod, but being high sec, I dont think he would have gotten me. Thats a feeling I dont want to get used to, tbh.
I think what I could have done differently in this fight was to assess my opponent better. I think I saw he was a 2010 toon, maybe november? Either way, I thought he would be an even match. I underestimated his skills with that ship when I assumed he was able to fly it, but not have the skills to actually fly it. I was proven very, very wrong. Once I saw that I wasnt doing much damage to him, I should have aligned instead of continuing orbit. When I was trying to warp out, I should have turned off my AB, because I learned that warping out gets you to max speed first, then actually warps you out a few nights ago. I knew that, but it didnt cross my mind mid fight. I also was not paying attention to my ammo, and did not switch back to my multi crystals before turning the lasers on. So looking back, I was not in my optimal range at just under 3k, I should have been at about twice that at 6k with the infrareds. Room for improvement next time.
I did try something new this time as well, which may have had a negative effect. I have heard grouping all your guns is a bad idea. So I decided to stagger my lasers. I let the first get about 1/3 finished, clicked the second one, then the third when the second was at 1/3 into its cycle. I think that affected my damage output in a negative way though, so maybe its a better idea to try with a bigger ship that has more turrets.

New Fitting
EFT is awesome btw. I will be switching out the EANM1 for the ANP2, fitting in a nos, and upgrading to a 200 armor plate. Doing this will increase my EHP from 5535 to 6857. Nice jump imo!
Volley damage:
DLP 94
GLP 71
The dps calculation difference in minimal, DLP = 46, GLP = 44. My cap also went from 1 minute 5 second duration, to 1 minute 53 with DLPs and 2 minutes with GLPs, with the new low slots AND nos on both setups! DLPs won out again for the convenience factor of being able to make my own.

Thanks both FNG and Taerean for the advice on switching out the low slots and looking more at the GLPs!
Edit: After getting home from work, I logged in and put this setup together. EFT is off by about 1k hp for this fitting. It says I should about 6800, when I have only 5800. Also, my capacitor in game is at 1 min, 25 seconds. Ive dug through each item to make sure its the same one in game as on EFT and it is. I went through all the skills affecting each module and they are the same as well. Im not sure where this difference in theory and in practice is coming from =(
Just to make sure it was consistent, I refit my original stuff and had similar results. The capacitor matched this time, but the hp was off by roughly 1k again.

Just to make sure it was consistent, I refit my original stuff and had similar results. The capacitor matched this time, but the hp was off by roughly 1k again.

The Fitting
As promised in the previous post, my fitting shall follow. I have about 7 million sp atm, spread out between combat, support, and industry. It equals out to 116 skills at level 3 or 4, with eight skills at lvl 5.
I had a couple people say its a mini vengence, but I just tossed on what made sense to me, as well as being able to fit it. A few days of research on battleclinic and in corp/help channels helped as well. I wish I had enough pg to put in a nos to help with the capacitor usage, but I can do without for now. I also want to fit a 200 armor plate, but I dont have enough cpu/pg for all that according to EFT. So for now, until I get a few support skills to level 5, (Engineer/Electronics) this is my fit::
[Punisher]
Lows
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane I
100mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I
Damage Control II
Small Armor Repairer II
Mediums
Fleeting Progressive Warp Scrambler I
Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters
Highs
Dual Light Pulse Laser I, Multifrequency S
Dual Light Pulse Laser I, Multifrequency S
Dual Light Pulse Laser I, Multifrequency S
[empty high slot]
Rigs
Small Trimark Armor Pump I
Small Trimark Armor Pump I
Small Trimark Armor Pump I
It is about 10 million per loss, however, if Im going to do this pvp thing, Im gonna go all out on it. Since I can make my own weapons, ships and half my ammo, I spent about 60 million on the items I was missing to have enough fitting supplies for 20 punishers. Im not going to fly with projectile, missiles, or rockets. I like my lasers for pewpew. I do have implants for +4% pg also, so I cannot fit the cpu bonus one in slot 6 due to this. I've been thinking about switching it though once Engineering finishes level 5 in two days.
I have a few skills to train up before being able to use the T2 variants of some items, but I dont think I will until my stock of fittings is out or low. Any comments or suggestions will be helpful =)

The History
I made this blog because I wanted to comment on someone else's blog, without the intent of actually having a blog myself. As my comment grew, it just felt better for myself to post it as a blog instead of a giant comment. So about myself first and foremost I suppose. Then a lengthy history.
I am Axazia. I am male, but Ive almost always played a female character as well, because alot of the times, they are just better to look at while running around the world of the game. If Im going to be spending hundreds of hours looking at the backside of an avatar, I better enjoy the view! Ive played EVE on and off since 2005. Usually with a trial account because I never had the patience to wait for skills to train. I began my MMO gaming with EverQuest, back in 1999. I know right? This guy played a game that was all about waiting and camping mobs and he cant wait in EVE? Right well, thats just me. Ive played many, many MMOS over the years, but always went back to EQ. I played SWG up until the NGE came along (Thats a whole other blog by itself!) and then EQ2 in Nov 2004. Ive gotten most of the "high hype" games that didnt deliver (AoC, WAR, Aion, ect), and always went back to EQ2. All those examples were pvp heavy too, so that may have been why??? Anyhow, I quit playing EverQuest 2 in February last year. I went to my Xbox 360 and Call of Duty on and off as I dont have the attention span to keep playing the same maps over and over for days and weeks on end. I hate WoW as well.
In April or May 2010, I started EVE again with about three trial accounts. I got in game and spent a few weeks deciding a plan for myself this time around. I made and deleted several characters in this process, finally settling with a woman of the Amarr Empire named Axazia sometime in June or July. I did not want to be one of those pirates with some neutral alt RR'ing his main or other alt pirate while out roaming. I consider that cheating. I dont mind boxing, as Ive boxed in about all MMOs Ive played, but when it comes to pvp, you just make things unfair when fighting another person one on one when you have a healer/buffer right behind you. Your skill vs their skill, or gear in some games, is how it should work out in small scale pvp. Not 2v1 with the 2 being 1 with a helper. Anyhow, I digress. I started with 3 accounts, found a ship I wanted to fly (the Abaddon and Orca, eventually Rorqual, still working on that one) and I wanted to be somewhat self sufficient.
It only made sense to go miner and industrialists with my three characters. So I went hulk, hulk, orca. I built my skills to sufficient level to fly each of those with the basic support skills, mostly level 3s and 4/5's when it was required to get another skill or item fit. So I got my setup after a few months of flying a bestower, and 2 miner ships, with the basic combat skills trained as I could fit them in (usually if it fit under the 24 hours, I trained it) I also trained some minmatar (dirty slave race) ship skills to fly an Ashimmu, just because it looks so awesome.
So I built funds, trained skills, then I got invited to a nullsec corp. Wow, I made some friends with other miners and I get to join a nullsec corp? Cool, Ill try it out. So, I joined Hysterically Unforgiving. Awesome people tbh, they were pretty understanding of my newbness and willingly offered information when I asked where I could find it myself. Then after a few weeks, real life kicked in and I was taken away from EVE, right when things were getting good! I let management know and went on my way.
I always lurked the EVE of's and stumbled upon a thread about something unimportant. I saw Taurean's link to his blog and after reading it, decided it was time to make a return to New Eden. I made a trial account, flew around training the newbie skills again, and not even 3 days into I decided I couldnt start over like that. I resubbed my main account only this time for now, which is Axazia. I consider all 3 accounts my main account, but she has the leadership skills and was my "leader" in fleets.
And here we are, present day. I decided I did not want to be a miner this time around, due to reading Taurean Eltanin's blog, pvp actually sounded like something plausible to me. Before that, I always considered it part of the game for the big boys with big ships. Sure, I can fly an abaddon, Im only 30 days out from having it fully cert'd and only the pulse laser specializations stand in my way of gaining T2 weapon access. I however, dont like the idea of losing a 150 million isk ship because I dont know wtf Im doing. 10 million ship fitted is much more reasonable to me.
I happened to already have BPOs for the punisher, dual light pulse 1, and small infrared crystals, so I was off to a good start already. Ill post my fitting in the next post, because this one is getting kind of long, but thats how history normally is, right?

First Real Foray into PvP
I just got back to EVE and decided to try your plan for myself. I used to be mostly miner with ships above my abilities, which meant I was usually on the short end of the stick of a pirates ship on mine. I have just under 7 million sp, and level 3/4 in 116 skills. I only have eight level 5 skills.
My first attempt resulted in a kill from flipping a guys can. I had been trying to find this retriever with dscan instead of flying to each belt. I had spent about 10-15 minutes figuring out the directional scanner before I figured out the basics on how to target someone and guesstimate their location, yet he wasnt my focus. I saw a mining barge and him, plus a jet can. I figured the miner was the one using it, but it was this guy in a rinky dink Tormentor. So I said screw it, lets rock out.
So once in range, I flipped his can, targetd and orbited him. After he noticed this, he flew off. Being high sec, I couldnt have attacked him without Concorde showing up and ruining my day. I just figured he didnt want to fight, so I filled my cargo with his ore, and a moment later as I was aligning to a station to unload, he reappered in his Coercer. It was awesome that he came back. And it scared me because he was in a destroyer. I set range pretty easily as he chewed through my shields extremely quick. But Im an Amarrian. I am all armor tank, baby! He couldnt break my tank as I pulsed my small repper! I scrammed him, stopping his escape of warping out.
It was about a 10-15 second fight, but it was intense for me with the thought in the back of my head that his friends might show up any second. Maybe he didnt have any yet, cuz no one came and I got the kill. Made a few trips back and forth getting ore out of his cans, but with over 22k m3 of ore, my little frigate only able to hold 350ish, it made for a slow drain out of the cans and quit after 3 trips =P
I expect losses in the future and planned for them accordingly, however, this first dip into pvp showed me that the effort Ive put into researching fits, tactics and figuring out the dscanner has paid off. I did however not check this guys info, such as employment history or anything to guage how much skill he might have against me, which I should have done just in case. Even then though, I would have attempted to fight him because I wanted to at least try pvp, even if I was going to lose. I dont care that this guys fit was terrible, I cant slack or you might see a loss mail! =)
